IN CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Fracas
Canon: Transformers: Prime
OU/AU/OC: OC
Canon Point: Following the conclusion of the episode “Thirst” + all of his history at Re/Alignment as of 12/31/13
History: Much of Fracas’s life has been spent as a nonentity. He was created as Designation #46391 shortly before the war began, and for the vast majority of his time he has been crushed under a variety of thumbs. He was crushed under the caste system until a gladiator named Megatron said he and others like him didn’t have to be, which was when he joined Megatron’s team – the Decepticons. Unfortunately, that didn’t really change much for him; he and the other Vehicons ended up crushed under Megatron’s thumb after that. Fracas fought on the front lines of the war between the Decepticons and the Autobots (eventually led by Megatron’s former friend Optimus Prime) until he suffered an injury that cost him the use of one eye. Following that, he managed too politely annoy someone into changing the duty roster so he would be on the Decepticons’ equipment maintenance team permanently. He wasn’t going to let his injury cost anyone else like him their life. He remained as part of Maintenance for long enough to end up on Megatron’s ship Nemesis, maintaining the ship’s engines and lighting systems. And for a while, he was happy.
The war carried on to Earth, but all of the events of it were something that Fracas was not directly involved in. Point in fact, the only time he was involved was when he attempted to explain to Starscream that the engine was down… and got hit in the face for his trouble. He heard about things that happened, but other than that stayed out of the way. Eventually, though, the number of Vehicons thinned so much that he ended up on field duty a few times – something he didn’t mind as much by that point because he’d managed to make a few friends for the first time in centuries. All other Vehicons, of course; he didn’t dare associate withnamed characters officers. Sadly, he had to put several of those friends down when a zombie plague was unleashed on the ship and some of the other members of Maintenance became the undead.
Shortly after this (as far as he knows), Fracas fell through a portal… and onto Cybertron. Well, a Cybertron, anyway; his own was dead and this one was very much alive and had a lot of people on it. People from different worlds, other Cybertrons in other dimensions... and several from his own. Which put Fracas into an interesting position; he had to simultaneously try to explain that he was from a place where there were millions of bots that looked exactly like him and he was unimportant, while trying to avoid getting killed. He had help, though. Over the course of nearly a year and a half, he has learned to fight, made friends – including with Autobots from his world – and started becoming something improbable: an individual. He changed his armor to hide himself from his abusive and murderous commanding officer, admittedly. But he also helped starting to build roads for the young Cybertron and eventually even stood up to the aforementioned officer. Heck, he’s pals with a guy that, when he arrived, chased him and threatened his life!
Not too shabby, for a mook.
Personality: Fracas was, for most of his life, a quiet and cautious sort. He was hyper-polite to everyone he met in order to keep living his (rather sad) life. The officers won’t kill you if you’re the eternal Yes Man that never expresses a differing opinion… at least that’s what he thought. He profusely apologized to everyone and endlessly thanked them, mostly for no reason. And he stuck to himself; he had seen so many of his coworkers and friends die that he didn’t want to invest any time in getting to know anyone else. It doesn’t hurt if you don’t know them, right?
All of that changed for him. He is still polite to people, though not overly so anymore. And while he does still get nervous talking to some kinds of people – those who were naturally his enemies back home and most authority figures, notably – he acts much less reserved than he used to. He made friends on the Nemesis again (along with a boyfriend), and made friends out of unexpected people on New Cybertron (and a boyfriend there too). He learned that maybe, just maybe, it’s worth it to make friends even if they might be gone forever someday. The pain is worth it.
He is willing to confront people when something that matters to him is on the line, now. He argued aggressively with Starscream – who murders Vehicons like him routinely – about the purpose and value of Vehicons, and even questioned a demigod about her decision to save his life when she could have rightfully chosen not to. He also tends to speak up about ideas he has these days: he is the one that suggested those on New Cybertron build roads in the first place, though he rarely takes credit for it or for how well he does with work. He may not be so quiet, but he stayed humble. He tries to stay positive, too. His life has been pretty terrible for a long time… but things started to look up, and maybe it will stay that way. Things cannot be awful forever, as far as he’s concerned.Impressively, he’s also able to look past bots being Autobots, Decepticons, or otherwise now. He judges people based on how they treat others and how they treat him, instead of an emblem. If you treat him well, he’s a steadfast friend that will do whatever he can to help you out, even if he’s not very good at it. If you treat him poorly, though, he’ll turn on you and more than likely sell you out to the most powerful person he knows (even people he fears like his own Megatron)… unless you apologize. Then there’s a chance he’ll cool down.
More to the point, he stopped being just part of a collective and has embraced that he can be an individual… and yet is still part of that collective. He began his journey on New Cybertron as just a Vehicon, one of millions exactly like him that no one can pick individuals out from without being a Vehicon themselves. As his life continued he became less just a Vehicon and more Fracas, a quiet mechanic that knew more than he let on. Though this got to a point where he eventually tried to deny that he was a Vehicon – admittedly to hide from Starscream. More recently, he has embraced that he is a Vehicon again… and knows that being a Vehicon doesn’t completely define him or anyone else like him.
Strengths: Most of Fracas’s skills exist in the area of engineering and mechanics. He spent a large part of his life in the Maintenance department of the Decepticons, and knows his way around fixing things. He’s not the best at it, but if he tweaks the engine it certainly won’t blow up afterwards. If he doesn’t know how to do it to start with, he finds a way to figure it out, whether it’s through asking those more knowledgeable or through looking it up and reading about it. His biggest strength is probably that he’s willing to learn, and he won’t quit until he gets it.
Weaknesses: Unfortunately for him, even with all that he’s learned, he’s still not particularly good at combat. He won’t die right off the bat but he has yet to be tested on an actual battlefield rather than in training. Dealing with figuring out a different body at the same time will provide plenty of problems in figuring out how to transfer what he has learned in training into a real-life setting.
Possessions: He is bringing in something rather odd: a Vehicon rifle that turns into a boar; it was an item drop from Re/Al. Of course, given the lack of firearms, it is being reduced to an adorable black and purple boar with bright red eyes. Its name is Noji.
Pony/Animal Type: A dragon, partially as a reflection of his current strength and how much he’s grown… and partially because it could allow for some interesting character growth. He will be returned to the typical purple-and-black coloration of a Vehicon, rather than his custom teal-and-black, and his left eye will remain scarred and useless. He’s also having his jet wings clipped, which might aid with his transition rather than hindering it. Bot is bad at flying.
Cutie Mark: n/a
Pony Picture: This art by the amazing JazzTheTiger; Fracas is more similar to the one on the left with the huge shoulderblades.
SAMPLES
First Person: Okay, so… I think this is how this works… Maybe. This is not as easy as it used to be.
[This is not a voice that is familiar to the network, probably. And – after a lot more muttering to himself – the face is probably not familiar, either. It’s silver with a scarred left eye… and awfully dragon-y. And concerned-looking. From the neck down the new dragon is all purple and black and rather wingless.]
Uhm. Hi. I’m Fracas and I think I’m new, and I have a very important question. Maybe someone can help me with it.
Why am I a Predacon?!
And this. Isn’t Cybertron, is it? I’m never going to live this down to Bulkhead and Skids, ugh.
Third Person: Figuring out how to handle these changes was a trial. Fracas understood changing – of course he did, he was a Cybertronian. But usually the changes weren’t into something like this. It was just from a robot to a jet, not into… a Predacon.
Dragon. Everyone was calling him a dragon. An organic Predacon, he guessed. Though sometimes when he saw a reflection of himself he’d still shriek in surprise. He had at least gotten used to a few things by now. Not having to worry about wings was a blessing. No wings meant no flying… and no trying to re-learn how to fly with a new set of wings. He’d had enough of the crashing when he had reformatted into the jet. Here that would have been especially dangerous – he was big enough that he might actually cause structural damage instead of just bowling comically through a friend’s balcony.
The next order of business had been food. No energon – too hazardous for organics to be around and it didn’t exist here anyway. That had required books to figure out… followed by digging in caves for gems. He was still not sure if he preferred eating semi-precious stones to eating food when he was turned into a human. They both had their merits, he supposed. He also had to learn how to feed Noji, but thankfully the boar figured it out pretty quick.
He still had to figure out how to get his tail under control, though. The darn thing kept wagging and twitching and doing everything that was completely inappropriate.
Well, he’d figure it out. Sooner or later.
